Srinagar: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is going to issue proper house numbers in Srinagar city to ensure identification and location of residential houses in various localities under the National Family Welfare Programme, a spokesman of the Corporation said.
Initially, a survey and the installation of number plates will begin in Ward No. 1 of Nishat. This process will be gradually extended to all other wards of the city in a phased manner.
The Central Commercial Industry (CCI) has been assigned the work to conduct the survey of houses, shops, hotels, boats, houseboats, business and commercial establishments. It will also carry out the fixing of number plates on such identified structures.
“The executing agency shall recover the survey and plate charges from the owner of the house, shop or commercial establishment at Rs 35 per structure under the close supervision of tax colleting staff of the SMC.” the spokesman said adding that the Commissioner SMC Dr Shafqat has instructed the executing agency to complete the work within a period of four months, the spokesman said. However on justified grounds extension of time can be granted / considered by the competent authority if need be.
“The installation of these number plates will help in identifying the houses and colonies, particularly in the newly set up colonies. It will also give a sense of sequence to the lanes and by-lanes of the Srinagar city,” said the SMC Commissioner.
In the process, identification of both residential and commercial addresses will be done in a swift manner, especially in case of any emergency. “An appeal is made to the general public for their cooperation in the process,” emphasized Dr Shafqat.
The Commissioner asked the concerned NGO to work under the close supervision of Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Sanitation Officer and the concerned Ward officer.
