Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party MLA from Noorabad constituency, Abdul Majeed Paddar, on Saturday said that his workers were threatening to boycott the upcoming parliamentary polls in Kashmir if he is not inducted into the cabinet of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
“I had a meeting with my workers at Gandhi Nagar in Jammu. The workers were furious that I was not inducted into the cabinet,” Paddar told Kashmir Reader.
“They were so furious that they told me they would boycott the upcoming parliamentary polls. They want me to be in the cabinet. I am not saying this; it is the workers who want me in the list of ministers. It is their demand,” he added.
The parliamentary seat for south Kashmir fell vacant after Mehbooba Mufti resigned from the post to become chief minister of the state.
Rifts have already emerged in the PDP after Friday’s cabinet reshuffle. PDP minister Bashrat Bukhari resigned soon after he was stripped of his ministries and given the insignificant portfolio of horticulture. Another legislator, Imran Ansari, tendered his resignation to Mehbooba Mufti for not being inducted to the cabinet.
Majeed Padder to Kashmir Reader, “I am not saying I will not support the party in upcoming parliamentary polls. It is my workers who have decided so. They feel that their constituency has been ignored. I can’t impose my views and decisions on them.”
