KUPWARA: A day-long awareness camp for fruit growers and orchardists organized by Horticulture, Planning and Marketing Department was held today at Handwara.
During the camp participants were acquainted with latest practices and innovative trends to be adopted for boosting horticulture produce in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Development Commissioner Kupwara, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that horticulture sector has potential to improve socio-economic conditions of the people and adoption of latest technology in this field can not only enhance the production but shall be helpful in providing better employment avenues as well.
He said 70 percent population is associated with this sector directly or in directly in the district and said that Horticulture Department has identified 100 kanals of land for plantation of high density plants.
He said, so far, 30 kanals of land has been utilized to boost the Horticulture Sector under the latest technology for which the technical and other assistance is being provided to the growers and the owners of the orchards on 50 percent subsidy basis.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joint Director HPM, Chief Planning Officer Kupwara, Area Manager HPM Kupwara, Chief Horticulture Officer, Experts and other concerned also participated in the camp.
