Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will likely induct former minister Altaf Bukhari in her first expansion of Council of Ministers during an oath-taking ceremony scheduled to be held on Friday in Jammu.
“Bukhari will be making comeback as a minister,” a senior government official told Reader. “Bukhari will likely be the only man who will take oath as minister. There will be minor changes in portfolios in the CoM to accommodate him.”
According to the official, Bukhari would be either inducted in R&B (Roads and Buildings) or Tourism ministry.
Bukhari, an MLA from Amira Kadal constituency, was dropped from the council of ministers after allegations that he was bargaining with the central government to make him head of J&K government at a time when Mehbooba Mufti had sought assurance from the BJP on both parties’ ‘agenda of alliance’ before taking a decision to head a coalition government with the BJP.
Friday’s re-shuffle will be the first time in Mehbooba Mufti’s nine-month tenure so far that the CoM will be expanded. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to be held at Raj Bhavan Jammu.
Currently, there are 23 ministers in the CoM, including Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Bukhari’s induction will raise the number to 24, one short of the maximum number of 25.
