Clashes erupt after bank looted in Shopian

Srinagar: Soon after unidentified gunmen looted a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in Turkewangam area of Shopian district on Thursday, youth pelted stones on forces personnel who retaliated with tear smoke shelling.
Earlier, unidentified gunmen barged into the Bank, at Turkewangam and decamped with Rs three lakh fourteen thousand.
After a police party reached the spot, youth started protesting by raising slogans, reports said.
They alleged that Bank robbery was meant to “malign the militants”.
Police quickly swung into action and chased the protesters who pelted stones on forces personnel.
Local sources said that men in uniform fired tear smoke shells on stone pelting youth ensuing clashes in the area.
