Bandipora: Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of eight burglars involved in various thefts in north Kashmir.
SSP Bandipora, Zulfikar Azad said that “the gang was active for quite some time in Baramulla, Bandipora and Sopore areas.” The police said that after various reports of theft, a special team headed by DySp headquarters, Parvaiz Ahmad and SHO Gaznaffur Syed was formed to nab the gang.
He said that few people were initially brought for questioning and the investigation lead to a large gang.
The arrested men are; Imran Ahmad Sofi, Ramzan Sofi, Irfan Ahmad Mir, Irshad Ahmad Akhoon all from Kaloosa area of the district, Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Khazir Mohammad Dar, Mohammad Wasim Bhat and Ashiq Ahmad from other villages. A case FIR no. 03 of 2017 u/S 457, 380 RPC has been regsitered. Police said that it recovered a large quantity of electronic goods and processed tins of ghee besides a vehicle which was used by the burglars to ferry the stolen items.
Police further said that investigation was also going on to nab the gang of burglars who struck the Dastageer Sahib shrine in Plan Bandipora last month. The burglars had broken into the iron chest of the shrine during the night and fled with one lakh cash and copper utensils worth lacs, last month. The case is being investigated with FIR number 3/ 2017 under section 380/457.
