SRINAGAR: Cracking whip on rumour-mongering in the valley, after reports of several injured persons in protests against Kulgam encounter surfaced on social media networks, an FIR has been registered against rumour mongers, police said here on Monday.
The police stated some people were posting false updates on social networking sites like WhatsApp and Facebook regarding the death of some injured persons.
At least two dozen persons were left injured in clashes between protesters and government forces in Kulgam and Anantnag on Sunday after protests erupted in the areas against an encounter that left four militants, two soldiers and two civilians dead in Frisal village of Kulgam.
While clarifying that all persons are stable, the police said no injured person has succumbed to his injuries.
“The update is misleading and is as such refuted,” a police spokesperson said.
At least four injured were rushed to Srinagar hospitals after suffering grievously with bullet wounds.
The police have filed an FIR number 12 under section 505 RPC, 67 IT Act in Police Station Kulgam.
