Magam: Residents of Magam are complaining against Municipal Committee for failing to provide public toilets in the town.
Residents especially women and girls told Kashmir Reader that they have to face a lot of inconvenience because of non-availability of public toilet facilities.
“The women are suffering a lot due to non-availability of the washroom facilities. There is not a single toilet in the entire town,” a girl student from the town said.
“We are in the 21st century and yet there is still no dignity for women,” she said. “Even women are forced to relieve themselves in the open.”
Executive Officer Municipal Committee Magam Shafqat Ali said that the department requires land for construction of public toilets.
“We will provide compensation to those who will give their land for the construction but nobody among locals is willing for it” Ali said.
He, however, added that a toilet is being constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission and “it will be completed soon”.
