SRINAGAR: The government intends to target 50 hectares of land in Budgam distinct for cultivation of scented rice variety Mushk Budji this year in Budgam district.
This was disclosed during a meeting held by the District Development Commissioner Budgam, Mir Altaf Ahmad, on Saturday to take a comprehensive review of various State and Centrally Sponsored Schemes under different sectors in the district.
During reviewing of the agriculture sector, the DDC was informed that last year Mushk Budji was cultivated on 25 hectare with 25 quintal seeds provided free of cost to the farmers.
The production 600 quintals were registered this year with 50 quintals of the harvest repurchased at Rs 8500 per quintal to maintain seed stock for next season.
It was informed that during the upcoming season 50 hectare of land in Raithan, Arigam, and Kesh in Budgam will be utilized for growing of paddy variety.
The meeting also took a review of Horticulture sector, during which the DDC was informed that during the current fiscal a total of 1.23 lakh MTs of dry fruits, apples, pears were exported.
He was informed that under NRLM 13 milk collection centers have been established at the cost of Rs 1.5 lakh per unit under Self Help Groups.
Regarding the progress made under Social Welfare Department, the DDC was informed that Rs 12. 60 crore have been disbursed under various welfare programmes, besides Rs 4 crore were provided as scholarship to students through DBT mode.
During the meeting, credit based schemes of District Industries Centre, Handicrafts and Handloom department were also discussed. The DDC enjoined upon the officers and LBO to ensure due diligence while sponsoring these cases and ensure fidelity in the whole process.
While reviewing the progress made under Swach Bharat Mission, it was given out that out Rs 5.5 crore as many as Rs 3.38 crore have been spent and 6500 household latrines and 28 sanitation complexes were constructed in the district.
The meeting was attended by officers of the district administration, Lead Bank Officer and other concerned officials.
