Srinagar: Expressing strong resentment over the arbitrary arrests of youths in Natnusa village of north Kashmir’s Handwara district, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Wednesday said the only crime of these people is that they demanded the body of Azharuddin Khan to perform his last rites.
In a statement, Shah termed the statement of police as misleading and concerning saying such behaviour towards the people is intolerable.
He strongly condemned the arrest of 31 people including minors saying police through such acts are pushing youth to the wall. Demanding unconditional release of all those picked up, Shah said police must bear in mind that it has to live and die in the same society. “Such kind of police activities should stop as it will yield serious repercussions.”
Shah said to return the mortal remains of martyrs for performing last rites is a religious obligation and police has not right to stop the people from making such demands.
