Baramulla: A land dispute has erupted in north Kashmir’s Pattan area after several local residents occupied half a kanal plot belonging to the government during the months of unrest in the Valley. Even as the locals filed a complaint against the usurpers, the government department did not initiate any action.
Locals said that half a kanal plot located at Par Mohalla, opposite the Jamia Masjid had a Patwar Khana in a rented building in the past. Taking advantage of 2016 unrest some miscreants illegally occupied and fenced it.
Some social workers and senior citizens approached several offices including the office of the tehsildar Pattan and the municipal committee but to no avail. The locals said the public land could be used for constructing public toilets, a primary school or a hospital.
Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Pattan Sarfaraz Mohammad said action would be done against the people who occupied the government land. “I know about it, and I form a team of officials who will look into it. I assure you that we will take action and will free the land from any encroachment very soon,” he told Kashmir Reader.
