Kupwara: Authorities on Thursday airlifted eight patients including a woman from border Karnah town in Kupwara district to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.
The only surface link (75 Kms long) connecting this border town with rest of district has been blocked for traffic due to heavy snowfall for past over three weeks.
“Following directions from Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, all eight patients were airlifted in two sorties to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment,” said Ghulam Mohammad Dar, DC Kupwara.
The patients include a pregnant woman whose glucose level was high and needed immediate treatment, according to Zakir Hussain Khan, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara. The patients were undergoing treatment at sub-district hospital Tanghdar for past one week and were referred by the doctors.
Dar along-with senior officers travelled to TP en-route Karnah town to assess the snow clearance on the road. “The high altitude road is through for traffic till Neelum top and the snow clearance work is on. It will take one more day to clear snow from the entire road connecting Karnah with Kupwara,” DC added.
