Jammu: As many as 595 cases of rape were registered in the state in the last two years, the government informed the state legislature on Wednesday.
In a written reply to legislator MY Tarigami regarding the number of rape cases registered in last two years, the government stated that in last two years 595 cases of rape were register in state. Out of these, 213 rape cases were registered in Kashmir division and 382 in Jammu division.
IN Kashmir Kupwara topped the district wise list with 30 cases, followed by Anantnag with 29 cases. 27 cases of such cases in Srinagar , 23bin Budgam, 9 in Ganderbal, 5 in Leh,01 in Kargil, 9 in Pulwama, 17 in Kulgam, 9 in Shopian, 7 in Awantipora, 15 in Baramulla, 12 in Sopore, 30 in Kupwara, 7 in Handwara and 08 in Bandipora.
In Jammu, 93 cases of rape were register in different stations of Jammu during year 2015-2016 followed by Rajouri with 70 cases, 15 in samba, 27 in Kathua, 33 in Udhampur, 26 in Reasi, 23 in Doda,23 in Kishtwar,24 in Ramban, 70 in Rajouri, and 24 in Poonch. Over the cases of domestic violence against women, the government stated that 368 cases of domestic violence were register during year 2015-2016 in Kashmir division and 459 in Jammu division.
As per government statics district Srinagar topped the list of cases of domestic violence with 132 cases, followed by Anantnag with 50 cases registered in different police stations of the district, 14 in Budgam, 20 in Ganderbal, 1 in Kargil, 8 in Pulwama, 19 in Kulgam, 18 in Shopian, 10 in Awantipora, 15 in Sopore, 29 in Kupwara, 7 in Handwara and 12 in Bandipora.
In Jammu division, 175 cases of domestic violence were registered in Jammu district during 2015-2106, followed by 80 in Rajouri, in Udhampur the number stands 50, 14 in samba, 10 in Doda, 16 in Kishtwar, 20 in Ramban and 30 in Poonch.
Over another question regarding the delay in appointing the director of State Vigilance Organization since 2015, the government replied that the appointment of director of vigilance organization is under active consideration and the charge of the post is being held by Inspector General of police.
