Jammu: Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta disallowed a resolution moved by independent legislator Engineer Rasheed asking the House to oppose the resolution passed by Legislative Council seeking holiday on eve of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday.
As soon as the House began its proceedings, Rasheed asked Speaker Gupta to put the resolution to vote. However, the speaker replied that he had disallowed the resolution, at which Rasheed lodged protest against the decision and asked NC leader Omar Abdullah to support the resolution.
After NC members failed to support the resolution and Rasheed lashed out at Abdullah
“While majority of Kashmiris do believe Sheikh Abdullah to be root cause of all problems the state has been facing since 1947 but it has been National Conference which has been talking about just one side of the coin by talking about Sheikh’s fights against Mahraja’s atrocities and cruelty. But now when Legislative Council is trying to glorify Maharaja, it was duty of the House especially the NC Members to set record a right. However it is ironic that NC leaders do neither collect sincerity and wisdom nor courage to move the resolution but do keep a criminal silence over the resolution moved to oppose Council’s resolution,” Rasheed said.
Later Rasheed walked out of the House as a mark of protest against disallowing the resolution and termed the rejection of resolution without voting “murder of democratic traditions”.
