Tral: More than a dozen shops, concrete walls and residential structures were demolished in a massive in Tral sub-district of south Kashmir on Monday. The structures had been raised during the recent unrest when the administration had taken a back seat in the area.
Sources said that SDM Tral Riyaz Ahmad Malik arrived along-with a team of municipality employees and a contingent of police to carry out the demolition drive. The maximum demolition was carried out between the bus stand and Darul Uloom. The demolition was also carried out at Nowdal road.
The locals hailed the demolition drive and urged the local authorities to identify other sites in the town where encroachments have taken place. “There is massive encroachment in the town especially along the bus stand area. The main stand is occupied by vendors making maneuvering of vehicles an uphill task,” Bashir Ahmad, a local resident said. He said the demolition drive must be carried out more vigorously and efficiently.
