Pulse Polio successful in Sopore

Srinagar: Thousands of under-five children were administered pulse polio vaccines in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub-district. The campaign was inaugurated by sub-district magistrate Bashir Ahmed Bhat at the Sopore District Hospital on Sunday.
From the early morning announcements were made in the local mosques encouraging people to get their children up to the age of 5 years to their nearest polio booths. The people came out in large numbers braving intense cold to administer vaccines to the infants.
Block Medical Officer Sopore Dr Muhammad Sami said the teams have been deployed across the Sopore town to immunize 40430 children. He said 138 vaccination booths were put in place. As many as  786 teams were deployed consisting 552 staff members of health Department, 278 Asha Workers, 22 volunteers from various Non-Government Organisations, besides 28 supervisory staff and 3 special teams will monitor the whole process.
