Jammu: Usman Majeed, a former counterinsurgent and now a Congress legislator from Bandipora, took a dig at chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s remark that only 5 per cent of people participated in last year’s uprising, saying if her government “couldn’t control the situation then, what will it do” if 10% of the population revolts in future.
Speaking during a discussion in the assembly, Usman also asked the CM why she announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to those “whom she had accused of attacking (army and paramilitary) camps”.
He accused both PDP and BJP of double speak.
“Everyone is aware of how PDP was formed and its politics. They used to ask people to vote for them so that they can resolve Kashmir issue but what they have done after getting the mandate?”
“Same is the case with its alliance partner BJP that cheated the people of Jammu by asking them to vote so that a Hindu can become chief minister and Article 370 can be abrogated,” he said.
He said last year’s uprising occurred because PDP aligned with BJP and those who had voted for PDP “felt cheated”.
“Otherwise militants like Burhan Wani have died in the past too,” he said.
