Srinagar: The Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG), an organisation of valley’s prominent newspaper editors and owners, congratulated chief editor of Daily Chattan Tahir Mohiuddin for receiving the state government’s annual state award for excellence in the field of media.
In its meeting, the KEG said the award presented to Mohiuddin, who is also a vice-president of the KEG, was endorsement of the services he has rendered in the field of media during the past three decades.
The meeting presided by its President Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo also discussed various issues confronting the media fraternity.
“The KEG members felt the need that the issues confronting the media fraternity in Kashmir need to be taken up with the concerned quarters without any delay,” a statement issued after the meeting said.
The members identified the issues during the meeting and it was unanimously decided that these issues will be tackled as per their priority, the statement added.
The meeting also took note of various developments that are taking place vis-à-vis media in the state.
“Members asked the office bearers to involve all the stake-holders in tackling the critical issues involving different spheres of activities of media organizations,” the statement added.
They KEG President reiterated that while for decades media has upheld objectivity in reporting Kashmir, the media itself has remained a story of neglect.
