15 dowry deaths in 3 years, domestic violence increasing

Jammu: The government on Friday revealed in the assembly that during the past three years, 15 cases of dowry deaths have been reported.  In year 2014, 05 dowry death cases were reported while in 2015 and 2016, 06 and 04 such deaths have been reported respectively.
In a written reply from ministry of home affairs, the statistics indicate that abetment of suicide during last 3 years is 462. While in 2014 the number stands at 164, in 2015 it is 166 and in 2016 it stands at 132.
The statistics reveled on behalf of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is in-charge of the ministry of home affairs, said that 1153 cases pertaining to cruelty by husband and other relatives of husband were reported in last three years, 469 in 2014,398 in 2015, and 286 in 2016.
“The cases of domestic violence are being registered in the concerned police stations and action as warranted under law is being taken, further 06 police stations exclusively manned by women police have been established at District headquarters of Jammu, Rajouri, Udhampur, Srinagar ,Anantnag and Baramulla to deal with cases of domestic violence and social violence.
Replying another query from PDP legislator Anjum Fazili it was styated that in order to curb the traffic offences, the traffic police during year 2016 have challaned 6,10,947 and amount 11,20,60,649 has been realised as fine from the traffic violators.
‘’As deterrence, driving licenses of 805 have been seized by traffic police during year 2016, and there after recommended for suspension to the concerned RTOs in pursuance of the directions of the supreme court committee on road safety,” she informed.
