Wire based industry aghast over govt move to scrap crate mesh use

SRINAGAR: Sicop Unit Holders Association Kashmir here have said that government’s decision to replace crate mesh with Gabion mesh will have adverse impact on factories manufacturing crate mesh rendering them non-operational.
President of the association Masood Ali Wani, the fraternity is aghast on the decision of the department of Public Health Engineering and  Irrigation and Flood Control Department  to change specifications of crate mesh used for protection of bunds to a new specifications of Gabion mesh .
He said that the decision is likely to impact 70 existing industrial units which had been set up with huge investment and is currently providing direct employment to hundreds of employees besides thousands indirectly.
The members according to that statement feel that crate mesh that is manufactured by local units is proven and has withstood the test of time for decades with Gabion crates having no such success record, the members observed.
The members appealed the Chief Minister and President FCIK for their intervention before the concerned units are forced to take extreme recourse. They said that the tenders floated by PHE should be cancelled forthwith and orders for procurement of crates placed with J&K SICOP for equitable distribution among unit holders as per the government policy.
