Cong MLA says investigation at risk as ‘father of accused has links with RSS’
Jammu: Opposition stalled working of the assembly for some time by trooping into the well of the House and shouting slogans against the government, accusing it of shielding a teacher accused of molesting a medical student from Ladakh at the Government Medical College, Jammu.
Carrying banners and placards, Opposition members demanded that the accused, DR Bhumesh Khajuria, should be sacked.
Congress legislator from Ladakh Nawang Rigzin Jora first raised the issue and questioned “government’s silence”. Other Opposition members supported him.
Junior health minister Asiea Naqash intervened and said an FIR has been filed against the accused who has also been suspended.
Parliamentary affairs minister Abdul Rehman Veeri said, “This is a serious issue and we are keenly looking in to it. The said doctor has been arrested and law will take its own course.’’
The Opposition members, however, walked out of the House amid sloganeering, calling Dr Bhumesh a “sexual predator.”
Jora said, “There is a gang of sexual predators in the GMC and Bhumesh is kingpin.’’
‘’Dr Bhumesh is a habitual sex offender; many girls hailing from downtrodden families had to leave their studies mid-way to save their chastity from such sexual predators. Although an FIR has been registered against him, he is still roaming free. He should be in jail as he poses threat to the safety of female students and hospital staff. There are chances that he would interfere with investigation as his father has links with RSS,” Jora said.
Jora appealed to CM Mehbooba Mufti to look into the matter personally and sack the accused.
CPIM leader MY Tarigami called this incident unfortunate and said the accused doctor should be sacked and jailed.
“If he is not punished other molesters will get encouraged,’’ he said.
