Mirwaiz, Malik welcome debate on Kashmir in British parliament

Ask int’l community to resolve the issue once for all
SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Friday welcomed the debate on Kashmir held in British parliament on Thursday in which majority of the parliamentarians supported the right of self-determination of the people of Jammu Kashmir besides condemned the “brute use of force by Indian forces against Kashmiris”.
In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz while welcoming the statement by British parliamentarians said holding a referendum is the most transparent and democratic way to determine people’s will and give them a fair chance express their choice. “It is a simple way of resolving disputes, avoiding wars, and human sufferings, and moving towards peace and progress,” he said.
Referring to the outgoing US national security adviser Susan Rice’s warning that the unabated skirmishes between nuclear powers India and Pakistan over Kashmir can lead to catastrophic scenarios globally, Mirwaiz said this recognition of the Kashmir dispute and its disastrous global ramifications makes its resolution all the more urgent. “Let better sense prevail upon the leadership of the subcontinent and let us resolve the issue once for all and save our current and future generations from a life of uncertainty mistrust and animosity,” he said.
Chairman JKLF Muhammad Yasin Malik, as per a statement issued here, said the international community to duty bound to work for the resolution of conflicts like Jammu Kashmir. “This is mandatory for the lasting peace and prosperity of the whole mankind. Sooner these issues, conflicts and disputes confronting and jeopardising the peace and progress of humans are resolved, better it will be for the future of the whole world,” he said.
“The international community should rise above the considerations of its business and economic interests and work for poor and subjugated people besides ensure and safeguard their rights,” Malik said.
