SRINAGAR: Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has asked people not to participate in the upcoming Republic Day celebrations on January 26 and urged them to observe it as a ‘black day.’
In a 10-minute-video message circulated on social-networking sites on Thursday the outfit asked people to stop taking part in any state sponsored event or function on the eve.
In the video, a militant operative wearing military fatigues, flanked by two others brandishing AK assault rifles in front a Hizb banner, is seen threatening people of dire consequences for participating in the RD function.
“And if at all anyone dares to participate in the event, he will be declared a traitor and would face strict punishment,” he says.
Calling for jihad, the speaker also challenges Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and other mainstream politicians to try to give up their security cover.
“We will see if you will be able to live among common people without security cover,” he said.
Talking about state-sponsored functions and sports events, the militant insisted youth to avoid their participation.
“We are not against the games but if someone wants to play, he should participate in events at local level in games named after deceased militants,” he said. Video messages from Hizbul Mujahideen have become a common feature for the rebel outfit after they were popularized by slain commander Burhan Wani.
