Baramulla: People from the different villages of Baramulla staged a protest at Kiryapa Park Baramulla on Tuesday against non-availability of Aadhar Cards.
The protestors said that despite having completed the procedure for Aadhar registration over the last two years, thousands of people have not received their cards yet.
Gulam Jeelani Zargar, a local resident said that while government was making Aadhar registration more of a prerequisite for many essential services like bank accounts, LPG connection, driving license, passports, mobile connection, there were no efforts to look into the grievances of people not receiving the card.
“Recently the government announced that they will start another drive in all the villages and towns to register people who are yet to receive their cards, but so for no one has arrived at our doors. Nor is any office available where we could go to register or seek details,” Zargar said.
Abdul Jabar, a resident of Uri said that he visited many offices for help in getting Aadhar card without any success.
“If government is making Aadhar Cards mandatory, then it is the responsibility of government to ensure the smooth availability of these cards,” he said.
