Jammu: The state government on Tuesday admitted that the unemployment was the biggest challenge faced by the government with 58796 unemployed youth registered from Kashmir division as compared to 45781 youth registered in Jammu division.
Replying to a question from National Conference legislator Mubarak Gul, the government revealed that in Srinagar district 5366 youth are unemployed as compared to 11807 youth in the Jammu district. The highest number of unemployed youth (13039) is in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district followed by Jammu district. Kathua district has 9443 registered unemployed youth.
As per the government data the Kashmir Valley’s Anantnag district has the second highest number of unemployed youth (5375) after Kulgam district. The south Kashmir’s twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian have 5173 and 4335 unemployed youth respectively.
The government has also revealed that the lowest number of unemployed youth is registered in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district with only 2684 such youth. AS many as 3987 unemployed youth are registered in Kupwara while as 3587 unemployed youth are registered in Baramulla.
The government said it has adopted fast track recruitment policy under which gazetted as well as non-gazetted posts have been referred to the recruitment agencies.
In another reply in upper house, the government revealed that 22 employment exchanges exist in the state. According to data, the number of unemployed youth registered during last three years with employment exchanges including male and female stands, 244655 in 2013, 222180 in 2014, 147128 in 2015 and 104577 in the year 2016.
