SRINAGAR: Senior photo journalist and chief photographer of Kashmir Life, a weekly magazine, Bilal Bahadur was injured on Monday by a teargas shell fired by the government forces.
Bilal, according to photojournalists, was hit by the shell when he was covering the funeral procession of Hizbul Mujahideen militants who were killed in Awoora gunfight.
“Photojournalists who were accompanying Bilal informed that police directly fired a teargas shell at Bilal Bhadur as he was covering the funeral procession of the slain militants… Even though Bilal showed his camera, he was shot. The incident occurred just outside the Bijbehara hospital,” reads the Kashmir Life website.
Bilal has suffered injuries in his left arm and was rushed first to sub-district hospital Bijbehara and then to Bone and Joint hospital Srinagar.
Meanwhile Kashmir Press Photographers Association has strongly condemned the attack on Bilal and demanded action against the forces.
