Kuwpara: Residents of remote Bhudnamal village in Kupwara district have been facing shortage of ration and kerosene oil for past ten days as the road leading to the village was blocked for traffic due to heavy snowfall.
At least two feet snow is accumulated on the road since early last week. The local residents said the village is cut off from the district headquarters. The children are forced to walk for about six kilometers to and from Chowkibal where they take winter tuition classes.
“Ration and kerosene oil is not available at the local depot adding to the miseries of the forlorn population. The village is also devoid of power supply as the supply was suspended due to snowfall,” Abdul Subhan Lone, sarpanch of the village said.
The village comprising of around 110 families is around 30 kilometres from Kupwara headquarters. The village is also devoid of water supply as the supply lines are frozen at various places.
Additional deputy commissioner Kupwara Abdul Hafeez Shah said that the concerned department has been asked to ensure supply of essentials to the village. “Snow will be cleared from the road as soon as the weather improves,” he said.
