SRINAGAR: Khalid Amin Gojwari and Sana Mukhtar respectively took the titles in the State Chess Championship (boys and girls) held at Sheri Kashmir Indoor Stadium here.
The championship was organised by All J&K Chess Association in which around 135 players including 35 girls of the state participated.
In boys U-19 category, Mir Saqlain Afaq bagged first place and in girls U-19 category Bishmah Afshan emerged winner.
Irfan Majeed bagged the title in U-17 category, Zubair Ahmad topped in U-15 category and Syed Mohsin in U-13 category.
Ahmad Bin Altaf and Mohd Gous Banday won U-11 and U-7 category respectively.
Saima Shafi topped in U-25girls category while Mushinah Farooq bagged first place in U-17, Zobia Riyaz topped U-15 category, Mehroz Sajad topped U-13 category while Ambroz Sajad won U-9 title.
Mohammad Gous Banday and Ambroz Sajad were awarded youngest participants while Rajinder Singh was awarded by ‘Chess Loving Person’.
It was first time that players from Ladakh division and Karnah, Tangdar also participated in this championship. Total five rounds under Swiss system were played in this championship.
Joint Secretary, Sports Council, Zamir Ahmad was the chief guest and disturbed the prizes among the position holders.
On the occasion Zamir Ahmad and other sports personalities appreciated the efforts of All J&K Chess Association for organizing such event and said that such event will go a long way in promoting chess in J&K.
The championship was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
