Srinagar: A controversial militant commander was killed by the government forces on Srinagar outskirts on Thursday night. A cop hailing from SOG’s Budgam unit was also wounded in the operation.
The slain identified as Muzaffar Naikoo alias Muzzi Molvi of Sopore was killed in a brief gunfight at Mochoo.
A police official said, Muzaffar was killed after forces received tip-off about his presence in Gulzarpora area.He said, the militant lobbed a grenade toward the cordon and search party ensuing into a gunfight.
Muzaffar was currently affiliated with dormant Al-Badr after Lashkar-e-Toiba disowned him in 2015.
He was involved in many cases, according to police, including killing of two sisters in Sopore in 2011 which sparked outrage in the Valley.
The duo Akhtara and Arifa were dragged out of their home and killed for suspected links with forces.
