Jammu: National Conference legislator Showkat Hussain Ganaie on Tuesday termed Hizb commander Burhan Wani as a “freedom fighter and martyr”.
Ganaie made these remarks during a debate in the Legislative Council over the uprising triggered by Wani’s killing.
He said Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin had crossed over to “Pakistan for resolution of long pending Kashmir dispute”.
PDP MLC Firdous Tak interrupted Ganaie and sought clarification from him. To this, Ganaie replied, “I stand by every word I have said.”
“Kashmiris will keep picking up arms and lay down their lives until Kashmir issue is resolved,” he added.
However, National Conference later clarified that Ganaie’s remarks were his personal views, not party’s.
