JAMMU: Ladakh region legislators Nawang Rigzin Jora, Asgar Karbalai, Aga Syed Baqir and Deldan Namgyal discussed with chief minister Mehbooba Mufti a recent incident of sexual harassment of a Ladakhi girl in Jammu.
Karbalai said the legislators told chief Minister that this not the first time that a girl student from Ladakh region had been sexually harassed. There have been several such incidents in the past.
He said a girl reported the harassment to her parents while another brought this into the notice of her department but no action was taken.
He said, “For the first time this girl has dared to lodge FIR against the culprit and there are many other cases which are unnoticed yet”.
“We have urged Chief Minister to take strong notice against the culprit and ensure security for the students (especially girls) who are studying outside of district”. He added.
The chief Minister on her part assured the representatives that she will take strict action within two days.
Nawang Rigzin Jora in a statement said, “We met CM Mehbooba Mufti along with other legislators of Ladakh and demanded stern action including termination from service HoD Forensic, Medical College, Jammu for molestation of the girl student”.
“We have warned her of the conspiracy of some ministers and legislators to protect this criminal and pleaded with her not to compromise under any political pressure from any quarter”, he added.
He said the CM assured them of support. “Being a lady Chief Minister she should award exemplary punishment. All of us have stood with the girl, and shall continue to do so,” he said.
