ESIC holds awareness programme on SPREE

SRINAGAR: Employees State Insurance Corporation(ESIC) on Thursday organised a seminar AEGIS Limited, SIDCO Complex, Rangreth, Srinagar to spread awareness among the Employers regarding the Scheme for Promoting Registration of Employers and Employees (SPREE).
Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Director gave a introductory speech about the functioning of the ESI Scheme in the Jammu and Kashmir Region.
M.K. Arya, Regional Director, ESI Corporation, Jammu & Kashmir Region addressing the gathering enlightened the Employers about the salient features of the Scheme and its benefits and informed that a Scheme launched by the ESI Corporation namely    SPREE will remain open from 20/12/2016 to 31/03/2017. The Regional Director further informed that this is one time opportunity to the Employers to register themselves under the provisions of the ESI Act 1948, who have not yet registered. The advantage of the Scheme to the Employers is that those Registered during the period will be treated as covered from the date of registration or as declared by them without attracting liability for the past period even if the Act was applicable retrospectively.
Arya also informed that the GoI has enhanced the threshold wage ceiling for coverage of workers under the ESI  Scheme from the existing Rs.15000/- per month to 21000/- per month from January, 2017 because of which the insurable population covered under the scheme is likely to increase to the extent of 15 -20%. It was also informed that at present the ESI Scheme has been fully implemented in 8 districts in the State and now it being extended to the remaining 14 Districts also for which the preliminary survey has already been conducted and medical arrangement have also been finalized before implementation.  The Corporation is also in a process of opening district level offices and initially four such district offices have been planned to be opened at different locations and out of these four district offices, one district level office at Udhampur has been finalized.
