Srinagar: Closing ceremony of five days long Phoenix Sports Fest organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police, District Srinagar, was held here on Wednesday at Indoor Stadium. The games including Table Tennis, Boxing, Judo, Tug of war, Weightlifting, Archery and Badminton were played and about 500 players participated in the sports festival.
DIG Central Kashmir Range (CKR) Ghulam Hassan Bhat was the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone was the guest on honour on the occasion.
Speaking on this occasion DIG CKR Ghulam Hassan Bhat complimented the participants, their parents and relatives for participating and encouraging the budding players of the Srinagar city.
He said that police organizes these competitions in different sports and performing arts to provide a platform to the talented youngsters to showcase their abilities in these fields. He complimented the Srinagar police, management of Indoor Stadium, coaches and support staff for making the festival a huge success.
He said that today’s programme is part of the series of such programmes launched by the police across the state in general and in valley in particular.
Bhat further stated that J&K Police will continue to sponsor and support these programs in future as well. Despite severe cold, the children and the teenagers enjoyed the event and participated with great enthusiasm. In the closing ceremony the final matches of Badminton and Tug of war were played and prizes were distributed among the winners and runner ups. The final match of Badminton (dpoble category) was played between Farhan,Owais and Nisar,Adam and was won by Farhan and Owais. In the Tug of war, the final match was played between Jehangir Sports and Judoka Warriors. The match was won by Judoka warriors.
DIG CKR Ghulam Hassan Bhat and SSP Srinagar Amit Kumar distributed the trophies and certificates among the winners and runner ups. These awards were given to 323 participants.
Among others SSP Security Maqsood Ul Zaman, SSP Headquarter Waseem Qadri, SP East Faisal Qayoom, DySP DAR Feroz Qadri and other officers and officials of police and sports council were present on the occasion. Besides, a good number of civilians and respectable citizens witnessed the programme.
