Srinagar: Unknown gunmen shot at and injured a ward member of opposition Congress in Bandipora while suspected militants escaped after a brief exchange with counterinsurgency police at Lassipora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district late on Tuesday evening.
Sources said that Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Ashtengoo Bandipora was shot at by unknown gunmen from a close range. He is a ward member and also works as a local cable operator. Sheikh was rushed to hospital.
In another incident, a load-carrier was intercepted at Lasipora village in Pulwama in which suspected militants were travelling. The militants opened fire before disembarking the load-carrier and fled away taking advantage of darkness.
The police personnel opened fire in retaliation. There was no loss of life in the exchange of fire. The area was cordoned off after the firing incident.
Meanwhile, unknown gunmen opened fire in Badoora village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district late on Tuesday evening. Sources said the gunshots were fired at Mohammad Shafi Peer’s residence, who is a close relative of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
