Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Friday said the “battle of Ideas balloon” of the state government has been punctured long back as it has stooped very low by perpetrating “unethical and undemocratic actions”.
In a statement he said that cordoning off his office-cum-residence, ransacking and destroying the fruits in orchards, burning heaps of paddy crop and the spree of arrests throughout the Valley is condemnable.
In a statement Hurriyat G said that Geelani has been confined in the four walls of his house since 2010 and all his social and political activities have been curbed to the extent that he has not been allowed to participate in the family functions, even the marriage ceremony of his four grandchildren. He has not been allowed to offer Friday and Eid prayers.
The Hurriyat said that since September 21, 2016, the cordon and restrictions have been reinforced by deploying a contingent of CRPF in a mobile bunker fitted with an automatic sniper rifle and cameras, which keeps the record of everybody coming and visiting Geelani.
The Hurriyat said that snapping the communication and not permitting any visitors — even the family members and their kids have to ask higher authorities to go inside their own house — has created a fearful and terrifying environment. Hurriyat said that whole nation is on protest for the last three months, with 8,500 people already arrested and 500 slapped with PSA and shifted outside. Killings and oppression is seen everywhere and any sign of amelioration are far from sight. In this grim and gloomy situation, isolating Geelani from its people is a well-thought design by the imperialistic, cunning and dodgy mindset of the government.
