SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) on Thursday expressed gratitude and thankfulness to Pakistan and its Nawaz Sharif-led government for once again pleading the “just political cause” of the people of J&K in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
“The suggestions put forth by PM Sharif before the international body for resolving the Kashmir dispute have been the demands of the conglomerate also for long time as they pave the way for a lasting solution and permanent peace in the region,” a spokesman of Hurriyat (M) said in a statement issued here.
He said Sharif “very emphatically” highlighted the ongoing “unrelenting and unprecedented oppression and violence being perpetuated upon the people of Kashmir by the Indian state” and presented a detailed dossier on the human rights violations being committed across the state.
The people and government of Pakistan, including prime minister Nawaz Sharif, have all along, for the past 70 years, stood like a rock by the people of Kashmir in their “just and principled” struggle for self determination, he said, adding that the country has provided all kinds of “political, diplomatic and moral” support, sometimes even “at their own peril”, which the people of Kashmir “fully realise and deeply appreciate”.
He conglomerate’s spokesman said that the silence of the UN secretary general, Ban Ki Moon, over the ongoing killings and human rights violations in Kashmir was “unfortunate”.
