Srinagar: Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti jointly held a high level security review meeting at Raj Bhavan late on Sunday evening in the backdrop of Uri fidayeen attack.
A Raj Bhavan spokesperson said the meeting was attended by chief secretary Bhir Ram Sharma, K. Rajendra Kumar, Director General of Police, BB Vyas, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister; Dr SP Vaid, Special DG (Coordination & Law and Order), PK Tripathi, Principal Secretary to Governor; RK Goyal, Home Secretary; Baseer Ahmed Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Zulfikar Hassan, IG (Ops), CRPF; Javed Gillani, IGP Kashmir; Vikash Chandra, IG, BSF Kashmir and the head of the Intelligence Bureau in J&K. Lt Gen SK Dua, GOC XV Corps could not attend the meeting in view of the visit of the Defence Minister to Srinagar.
The Governor observed that in the background of the Poonch and Uri attacks, it is of crucial importance to enhance surveillance on the security of all vital civil and military establishments in J&K.
The Governor recalled his directions earlier this year, after the Pathankot attack, for a Multi Agency Security Audit being carried out by all the security forces and other concerned agencies to identify and fill up every existing gap for ensuring an effective and prompt counter terror response on all fronts.
During the discussions, officers of the army, paramilitaries and the state police reported the actions already taken and those underway for safeguarding important establishments and vital installations. The Governor and the Chief Minister stressed the need for cohesive action for enforcing a constant vigil on the frontiers, stepping up counter terrorism operations and effectively maintaining internal security.
Governor and Chief Minister also reiterated the need for very close coordination being maintained amongst all the departments and agencies for ensuring prompt responses to ensure safety and security of the civil population. The meeting also discussed various, important issues relating to the effective enforcement of the counter infiltration and counter militancy grids along the IB and LOC in the Jammu and Kashmir regions
The Governor and Chief Minister also appealed to the people of state to maintain sustained vigilance to avert any fresh attempt by “inimical elements to disturb the security environment in the Kashmir Valley.”
