Baramulla: The army claimed on Sunday that it killed four non-Kashmiri militants during a gunfight in Nowgam area of Kupwara district.
The army said soldiers noticed “suspcious movement” in Nowgam along the Line of Control and launched a search operation.
On Sunday morning, a gunfight erupted between the militants and soldiers. Three militants were killed soon after the gunfight started and the fourth who escaped from the spot was later gunned down, the army said.
The army claimed that it recovered four AK-47 rifles, one UBGL, two Samsung mobile phones, a wire cutter and a few grenades from the spot.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 19 Infantry Division told reporters that militants are trying to sneak into this side on eve of Eid from Nowgam and Tanghdar in Kupwara district and Gurez in Bandipora district.
He said army repelled two infiltration bids in Tanghdar and Gurez sectors.
