Srinagar: Four persons try to restrain 60-year-old Abdul Ahad as he tries to break free of their grip on a bed in the Neurosurgery ward of the SMHS Hospital.
“Mea traev tav yale khudara (for god’s sake let me go),”cries Ahad, a resident of Roonipora, Achabal.
His shirt is smeared with blood, his left eye black and his battered chin has 10 stitches.
Ahad’s nephew Javaid Iqbal said, “He was in the courtyard of his house when CRPF troopers crashed in and fired pellets at him and thrashed him savagely. They ransacked houses and randomly beat up people. Uncle bore the brunt of their barbarity. At first we thought he was dead because they beat him unconscious.”
“They even hit his eye. A part of his tongue is cut,” Javaid said, tears welling up his eyes.
A doctor who was examining Ahad said, requesting anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media, that the victim has multiple pellet injuries in his head and left lung.
“The pellets have lead to contusions in his head and left lung while a pellet has made its way into his heart, that is why he is restless and wants to run away because of the pain that can’t be described,” he said.
His head has been operated upon and a tube has been placed in his lung to drain out blood.
