SRINAGAR: Official records at SKIMS hospital in Srinagar show that till August 27, there have been 53 cases of “assault by security forces” out of the total number of 274 patients injured by government troops who were treated at the hospital.
Doctors wishing anonymity said that “physical assault” could render a person disabled for life. “Beatings by government troops may lead to permanent fracture in spine, a medical condition called quadriplegia in which a person loses the ability to stand,” the doctors told Kashmir Reader.
The doctors said “if there are injuries in brain due to the assault, it may lead to intracranial tension (pressure in brain)”.
Due to assault by forces, there have been cases of eviscerations in internal organs, hemoperitonium (blood accumulation in the organs inside abdominal cavity) and other complications, said doctors who have treated “assault cases” in SKIMS in this uprising.
