SRINAGAR: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Wednesday condemned the arrest of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) leaders including its president, Abdul Qayoum Wani, and his associates.
President of the association, Dr G M Mir, said that peaceful sit-in protest by EJAC against civilian killings and harassment was not a crime under any law.
“It is unfortunate that people are being detained for lodging even a peaceful protest,” he said in a statement issued here.
“Govt. Employees and emergency services in particular are performing their duties under continuous threat and fear, but it is quite unfortunate that we are being detained even for lodging peaceful protests.
“On one side, the government is issuing orders for all government employees to join duties, but the ground reality is extremely tense. Now that when authorities are being apprised about the ground reality, they are being unheard and detained, which is deplorable and strongly condemnable,” he said, demanding immediate release of the EJAC leaders.
