After OIC’s Kashmir stance, MJ Akbar tours Syria

SRINAGAR: India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, MJ Akbar, has gone on a visit to Syria shortly and called on Syrian President Bashar Al Assad shortly after the 57-member OIC called the human rights violations in Kashmir “not an internal issue of India”.
This is the first visit by an Indian minister to Syria since the conflict began in the country 2011, and it is being seen as India’s diplomatic offensive against OIC stance.
Ministry of External Affairs reports have said that Akbar is on a weeklong visit to the Middle East during which he will also visit Iraq and Lebanon, besides Syria.
During Syria conflict, Assad has been at the centre of OIC’s criticism and condemnations over the human rights violations in Middle East, while Syria was suspended from the grouping in 2012.
