ISLAMABAD: Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Aizaz Chaudhry on Monday invited his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar to Pakistan for dialogue on Kashmir.
According to a report carried by the Pakistan-based Dawn newspaper, the country’s Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said that Aizaz called on the Indian high commissioner to Islamabad and handed over a letter addressed to Jaishankar highlighting “the international obligations of Pakistan and India with regards to resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions”.
India has been blaming Pakistan for fuelling the unrest in Kashmir, while Pakistan has been proactively supporting Kashmiris’ ‘struggle for their right to self determination’.
On August 14, Pakistan’s high commissioner to New Delhi, Abdul Basit, dedicated his country’s Independence Day to the freedom of Kashmiris.
Last week, the country’s adviser to the prime minister on foreign affairs, Sartaj Aziz, had stated that Pakistan was ready for a dialogue with India on Kashmir.
