SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Monday termed the “inaction and helplessness” of the government over the continuous killing of civilians in Kashmir as “shameful”.
In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz said that the government forces have turned the Valley into a “battlefield with target killings”.
He said the people in old city and other districts were not being allowed to offer prayers in the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar and main mosques of their localities.
He said the pro-India rulers only cared about staying in power and they would go to “any extent for hanging on to the chair”.
“If they cared about people, they would have realised how they were instrumental in filling graveyards with martyrs and hospitals with the injured,” he said.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman lauded the people for showing “consistency and steadfastness”.
After a month, people continue to follow the unified pro-freedom leadership’s programmes, he said.
“This would have a permanent effect on the ongoing resistance movement. The day is not far when they would see the dawn of a new revolution and fulfillment of their right to self-determination,” he said.
