Srinagar: Three Border Security Force personnel and a militant were killed in a gunbattle in Machil area of Kupwara district on Monday.
An army officer said a group of militants, believed to be three in numbe, entered into Kashmir along the Line of Control. In the ensuing gunbattle, the troopers and the militant were killed.
Two of the slain troopers are Mohinder Yadav and constable CP Singh. The operation was on till last reports came in.
However, some unofficial sources said that it was an attack by Pakistan Rangers, who returned to their side after killing the soldiers.
Hizb claims responsibility
Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on Monday claimed the responsibility of the encounter that raged between forces and militants in Macchil sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district in which a militant and several BSF troopers were killed.
In a tele-statement Burhan-ud-din, Hizb operational spokesman told KNS that “the attack on Indian troopers was carried out to pay tributes to the martyr Hizb commander, Burhan Wani.”
He said that “Seven troopers were killed on spot during the attack.”
