Srinagar: Traders of Fruit Mandi Parimpora have said that a group of youth asked the workers to stop working during night hours, although the resistance leadership has appealed to the people to resume work after 6pm everyday.
“Mandi traders had decided that they would work between 12am and 7am and faithfully follow the protest programme of Hurriyat leadership,” said a trader on condition of anonymity.
“This is how we had been working. But yesterday night some people came and threatened the workers. The workers are frightened now and they have told us that they will go to their homes. We have no idea of who these people were but they were aggressive,” the trader said.
Hurriyat and militant leadership has asked people to follow the resistance protest programme and single out those who violate it.
Reports of people forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters and stopping vehicles after the 6pm relaxation have been received from various areas.
The smaller vegetable Mandi at Batamaloo has also decided to remain closed for a few days after the gruesome murder, allegedly by CRPF troopers, of a man from the neighbouring Chattabal locality on Tuesday night.
