Govt to act tough against timber smugglers

SRINAGAR: Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Choudhary Lal Singh on Saturday said the government would act tough against the timber smugglers across the Kashmir region.
The Minister said this while taking a review meeting of the Forest and allied departments here. He said the department has been receiving complaints about increasing timber smuggling in areas including Trehgam, Manigrah, Hyhama,  Kandi, Mawar, Langate, Rajwar in north Kashmir districts while as similar complaints have been received from  areas including Khansahab, Waterhail, Doodpathri, Arin Bunkoot, Bandipora, in central Kashmir’s district Budgam. He said that there were similar complaints coming from the DH Pora, Pahalgam areas of south Kashmir. The Minister said the Department had initiated an inquiry into incidents and has found out that most of these complaints were baseless.
The meeting was attended by all HoDs of Department of Forest and its allied wings.
