Srinagar: Amid unrest in the Valley, scores of complaints are pouring in from across the city about the cutting or theft of underground wires by no-local slum dwellers.
Some residents of the city told KNS that slums dwellers are cutting the underground cables and BSNL telephone wires at many places.
“I saw three women near Jahangir Chowk flyover cutting telephone wires. Since the roads are deserted, they are taking advantage of it and stealing the wires,” Tariq Ahmad, a resident of Magarmal Bagh said.
“We caught them red handed cutting the wires and then putting them in their bags. They used stones to cut these wires,” Ahmad said.
They said that broadband is the only way to use internet these days but slum dwellers are making it impossible for us to use it by disconnecting the telephone wires.
“Several times our broadband stopped functioning and when we contacted the higher ups about the problem, they said that the wires were cut at some places,” said a broadband user.
The residents of the city have appealed BSNL authorities to take action against these slums dwellers.
