Man’s throat slit by road-blocking wire

Srinagar: A man was killed, and his son seriously wounded, when they crashed into a wire blocking a road in Beerwah area of Budgam district on Friday.
The accident occurred in the evening at Chill Bus stop in Arizal area of Beerwah where the road had been blocked by a wire fastened with poles on both sides of the road. A local resident Abdul Ahad Ganai and his son Kamran passed the road on way to their home oblivious of the wire. The father-son duo, riding a bike, hit the wire which sliced Ganai’s neck. He died on the spot. The speed of the two-wheeler was one of the main factors for the death, sources said. Kamran has been rushed to Srinagar for treatment.
It was not immediately known as to who blocked the road with the wire. Locals from the area said that the road had been blocked by the government forces. However, deputy commissioner, Budgam Mir Altaf Ahmad said that the wire was laid by some unknown miscreants. “The incident has nothing to do with the ongoing clashes,” Altaf said.
Meanwhile, police in a statement said that miscreants had placed obstructions on Beerwa road near Hardapanzu to stop movement of traffic on Friday evening when the duo rammed into the obstruction.
