SRINAGAR: MLA Langate and Awami Ittehad Party Chief and his associates were stopped from taking out a rally in Indian capital New Delhi by the police. Rasheed was arrested when he took out a protest rally from JK House to PM House adjacent to Chanakya Puri area.
AIP spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi said that the party leaders flew to New Delhi some days ago where it intended to hold a protest demonstration outside Parliament House.
“But the BJP led Union Government denied us the permission to hold protests against civilian killings outside Parliam ent House,” he said.
“We were asked to apply for permission to hold protests at Jantar Mantar which was given,” Inam said, “but today, we were told by a senior police officer that the permission was withdrawn.”
“Jantar Mantar is the only place where people from any race, party, religion have been holding protests but Rasheed was denied this space as well,” Inam said. Inam said that the AIP activists led by Engineer Rasheed planned to hold the protests outside Prime Minister’s House.
“We took out the march from JK House Chanakya Puri but a heavy contingent of Delhi Police swung in to action and arrested Rasheed along with his supporters,” Inam said while castigating the government for unethical ban on peaceful protests.
